Overnight figures have revealed that the Queen’s Christmas Broadcast was the most watched television programme on Christmas Day in the UK, with a combined audience of 6.4 million watching her annual message on BBC One, ITV, Sky One and Sky News.

BBC One’s “Michael McIntyre’s Big Christmas Show” was the highest rated programme on a single channel, with 6.1 million viewers. The overall Barb figures illustrated the continuing BBC domination of the Christmas Day TV ratings (only “Coronation Street” made the top 10 for ITV), but also a further decline in Christmas telly viewing. Figures are dropping year-on-year as our viewing habits change.

Overnight figures are only a snapshot because some shows will add millions more through catch-up services. The full picture will become clear in another week or so.
