The Lincoln Christmas market and festive lights switch-on event have both been cancelled for 2020 because of the coronavirus crisis.

The City of Lincoln Council said the popular annual market, which brings around a quarter of a million visitors to the historic cathedral city, could not be staged because of the risk to the public and traders. Lincoln’s Christmas lights switch-on, which also attracts large crowds, has been cancelled for similar safety reasons.

Council chiefs said social distancing at the events would be “impossible” and the threat of the virus will last “a significant amount of time.”
